Absolute Alignment Races to Success
It’s safe to say that motor sport is in the DNA of Absolute Alignment, the Farnborough-based wheel alignment equipment specialists. Technical Director Chris Dear has been racing almost as long as he has been allowed to drive in a career that covers everything from a humble Metro to a mighty Caterham. Currently he can be found behind the wheel of a Peugeot 205 GTi as he successfully contests the Vulcan Racing Classic Stock Hatch Championship, a series which he won in 2022.
But whilst he’s rightly proud of his racing exploits which prove the quality of the alignment equipment provided by Absolute Alignment, it’s the performance of the company off the track which gives him great satisfaction.
“We took the decision some time ago to ensure we had sufficient aligners in stock to satisfy customer demand without the dreaded wait for deliveries from the factory,”he said.
This policy paid dividends as the company stepped in to help when a fire ripped through the premises of their technical partner in the British Touring Car Championship. The popular Power Maxed Racing are helping Absolute Alignment prove their equipment at the very highest level of UK motor sport and the whole racing community was devastated when it was announced that the team and supporting company had been destroyed by the blaze towards the end of August.
Absolute Alignment had a new aligner with the team within a few days of the disaster, and this enabled them to be back on the grid at Knockhill the following weekend.
“We carry a large stock of wheel aligners anyway, so it was easy to pop over to the team and drop one off so they could continue to set up their cars both in their temporary workshop and at the track.
“It’s just what we do. Whether it's a regular purchase to start you off in wheel alignment or an emergency such as this, our aim is to get you up and running with the minimum of fuss and disruption.”
Absolute Alignment prides itself on working to help motor sport at all levels get to grips with wheel alignment.
“As a regular racer myself I know that a good set up is basically free lap time,” continues Chris, “so we’ve often been involved with grass roots championships demonstrating just how to find that competitive edge. We’ve worked with MGs, Citroen C2s, modern Minis and all sorts over the years, and in 2025 we’re helping the 750 MC Swift Sport Challenge. We’ve helped develop a competitive set up for these great little cars which is shared amongst all the drivers, and we attend selected events to make sure everyone is literally on the right track.”
The Absolute Alignment team take along with them an off-the-shelf wheel aligner which operates in the harshest of conditions and does not need a dedicated alignment bay.
“It’s a perfect tool for a team or Championship as we can set it up in any pit garage or scrutineering bay and the self-contained unit can pack away into the boot of a car for safe transport.”
Motorsport is at the heart of Absolute Alignment because it’s a fast-paced environment that demands solutions immediately, not when the delivery arrives. The company have recently added to their team so that more areas of the country have dedicated service engineers and office backup to speed up deliveries and after-sales service.
